beginner... desperate need of advice

Right now I can only go 50-100 m without stopping. I don't seem to be getting much better. I've been swimming about 4-5x a week. Im in decent shape. I can jog for 30 minutes without stopping, lift weights and play hockey. Is it correct that most of you can go 45 minutes freestyle without stopping? Also, it feels like my swimming is way too strenuous. Like it is all arms. For example, I don't get how I hear about college swimmers swimming for 2-4 hours a day. Is that without stopping? Like always doing drills or swimming? That seems crazy to me. How are they not exhausted? I mean a marathon is less than that. Any advice would be much appreciated. Do you know anyone that was as bad of a swimmer as me (im 28) and got to a level where they learned different strokes, became a strong swimmer? My long term goal is to be an
