is to be decided between the SW and New England, as can be seen in this article in swiminfo.com : swiminfo.com/.../3431.asp Hey Wayne, I wish you luck. NEM has some pretty good relays, though. What if they complain about all of the foreign swimmers (like me) at your meet? Actually, it sounds like fun. Maybe Pacific should get involved . . .

I inadvertently started this discussion when posting a recap of the 2001 NE SCM Championship. My claim that NE is the "center" of Masters racing was based on the fact that a very high percentage of our members race compared to the rest of the country. This point was largely bypassed in the subsequent discussions but might serve as an interesting separate thread, namely, the role of competition in growing membership in masters swimming. Now, on to Wayne's challenge. We are waiting for Wayn'es .CL2 file and will score it as meet versus meet--using the same scoring systems as Nationals. That means that every event should count. In the interest of simplicity we'll simply treat every swimmer at the SPMA meet as a member of that team and every swimmer at the NEM meet as a member of our team. Ed Gendreau, who also happens to be the NEM SCM Meet Director, came up with the brilliant idea of a "virtual" USMS SCM Championship based on the 2001 SCM TopTen. We've asked the powers-that-be at USMS to send us the appropriate files and are willing to "run it" and present the "results." Meanwhile, we're gearing up for the 2002 NE SCY Championships to be held at Harvard on April 5th-7th. This is the largest regional meet east of California (700+ swimmers) and we expect another very exciting contest with lots of great swimming and more than 150 relays. All our invited.
