External Iliac Arteriopathy

In the past few months, 3 triathletes that train on my team had an External Iliac Arteriopathy surgery proceedure done at UVA. They hope it will increase blood flow to their leg. Each now has a significant scar & is undergoing recovery. One athlete is pretty high ranked. Was it worth it? heart.uvahealth.com/.../external-iliac-arteriopathy
  • Seems pretty drastic. I guess I would simply stop cycling
  • I guess my question is, did the three who underwent the surgery have the symptoms of leg pain, cramping, and numbness? If the answer is no and they had the procedure performed to increase bloodflow and theoretically their performance, then that's pretty crazy, If they did exhibit the symptoms, is this any different than swimmers who undergo rotator cuff surgery to continue training and competing at the sport they love?
