2014 FINA Worlds Information

Dear Worlds Swimmers, The World Team coaches are excited to represent United States Masters Swimming at the 2014 FINA World Championship. Coaches are Tim Waud (Oregon), Dean Hawks (Indiana), Andrew LeVasseur (Colorado) and Jennifer Catucci-Crowther (Virginia). Venue: The World Team coaches intend on identifying two locations, one just outside of each competition pool in Montreal, where we can post daily messages for all the USA swimmers. Please be on the lookout for “TEAM MESSAGES” at the meet. Look for the USMS logo on the message board. Coaches: The World Team coaches will be highly visible on the pool deck(s). Coaches will be wearing USMS Polo Shirts and be in area represented by a United States Masters Swimming banner. RELAYS: Relay Cards: Relay sheets or cards indicating the names of the pre-registered swimmers will be given to the team representative on arrival at registration. These competitors must be verified or amended and the relay sheets or cards returned to the designated point by Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Changes to team age groups, swimmers or times will be accepted until Tuesday, 15th July 2014 by the coach or a team representative. All relay team members must be affiliated with the same swimming club. A swimmer may not swim for more than one team per relay event. TEAM DINNER: Check the team message board and Facebook daily for information regarding team dinners and social events.   • Is there any video feed of the event over the web similar to that done for us nationals? Unfortunately, no, according to a post I read on the FINA Facebook page.
  • I just noticed there's no parking at the venue. Is that normal for Worlds? I'm staying with a friend in the suburbs a couple of the nights, so do I drive and park at the nearest metro lot, then get on the metro for one stop?
  • please define normal and there was very very little parking in italy from what i could see....unless you were on a scooter
  • TRAINING PROVISION: Thursday July 31, Friday August 1st and Saturday August 2nd from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the Recreation Pool at Parc Jean-Drapeau. During the days of competition, all competitors are welcome to train in the Recreation pool from 7:00 AM to the end of the competition daily. Warm-up will be available in each competition pool from 6:50 AM to 7:50 AM. Start of competition at 8:00 AM daily.
  • WARM-UP PROCEDURES: Swimmers must enter the pool feet first in a cautious and controlled manner. No diving or backstroke starts will be allowed except in designated sprint lanes. One or more lanes shall be designated as ONE WAY SPRINT lanes during the pre-meet warm-up sessions in the competition pool only. No diving or backstroke starts will be allowed in the warm-up pools. No sprint lanes will be designated in the warm-up pool. Pull-buoys, kick boards, fins, hand paddles and other training aids consider inappropriate are not allowed in the competition pool or warm-up pool, as well as watches and heavy jewelry.
  • COMPETITION NOTES: All starts will be “over the head” i.e. swimmers from the previous race will stay in the water until the next race has started. The one-start rule will apply for all swimming events.
  • RELAY EVENTS: Relay sheets or cards indicating the names of the pre-registered swimmers will be given to the team representative on arrival at registration. All relay team members must be affiliated with the same swimming club. A swimmer may not swim for more than one team per relay event. MIXED RELAYS: “Mixed” means both sexes compete; i.e., two females and two males. The order of swimming is optional.
  • HEAT SHEETS: Heat sheets will be available on the Championship web site and on live results via SPLASHME and an individual listing per swimmer will be available at the ACCREDITATION CENTER. Results sheets per event are available for purchase at the Information Center in Parc Jean-Drapeau for 2,00 CAD.
  • PRE-SEEDING: The 800 Free, 400 Free and 400 IM will be pre-seeded using the times entered, SLOWEST to FASTEST regardless of age or age group. All other events will be pre-seeded using the times entered with the Oldest age groups first and with the SLOWEST heats swum first in each age group.
  • REPORTING: It is the responsibility of all swimmers to report to the clerk of the course (marshalling area) at least 15 minutes prior to their designated races.
