Just thought I would start a thread which didn't have deep philosophical overtones so that we all can have fun with the new forum software. Based upon personal experience, I will start a list of “You know you are a swimmer when …” with the following:
You know you are a swimmer when you leave work in the rain and you can smell the chlorine coming off of your hair.
Anyone care to add to the list?

...you get up at 4 am to drive 30 miles to the nearest 50 meter pool so you can train longcourse before going to work.
Having an outdoor 50 meter pool entirely to yourself at daybreak--priceless.

Yeah, well then don't come visiting MY pool! :) :) :)
Actually, I figured out why lane 5 is MY lane. With poor eyesight, I have a tough time seeing the pace clock. In my pool the clock is on the wall by lane 6. I don't like swimming on the wall, so lane 5 is the closest non-wall lane to the clock.
So when I visit other pools, I tend to migrate to lane 2 or lane 5 based on the position of the pace clock. And DAMN THEM if they don't have one, or don't have it running!
Im glad that someone brought this back up for all us newbies to read!! Having said that...
You know you're a swimmer when you walk into classes with bright red marks under your eyes and on your forehead, soaking wet, and giving off a strange smell and can't understand why people are looking at you kinda funny.

You know you're a swimmer when the word "butterfly" brings up images of sore shoulders, grueling (for some) exercise, and Ian Crocker as compared to the delicate little insect.
