Bunions and Swim Fins

New to masters swimming, first few workouts with fins resulted in REALLY bad sores on bunion on one foot. Any suggestions for special work-out fins or fixes for this foot problem? I would be very grateful!! ~
  • Try wearing some socks with them - preferably thin ones made of anything but cotton.
  • You may also try trying on fins that may fit better. I had to modify my fins to keep my big toes from being torn up because my big toes extend beyond the other toes and though the fins I purchaced were of the, required for me, relatively wide variety, the toe cut was for people with shorter big toes.

A swim sock with looser fitting fins is probably the best option. Since your fins are new, if you are swimming with them for more than 10 minutes you might just be getting used to them. Keeping on using them might not be letting your blister heal and skin toughen.
  • You know another thing that has worked for hiking in the past for me is to do a chunk of duct tape on a hot spot, so in your case over hte bunion. That stuff sticks so well, even when wet. Maybe it can help protect that piece of bone a bit from rubbing.
