Fast twitch muscles??

I heard from my friend that if i am aiming for 100m , 200m freestyle, i should do heavy weight, low reps in the gym to activate those fast twitch muscle fibers. Is that true? He told me heavy weight, low reps = fast twitch. Low weight, high reps = slow twitch.

  • did your friend also talk to you about transition? from white to pink, pink to red or red to pink or pink to white? and yes i know a little about this....i can show you the scar from a muscle biopsy that was done to determine muscle fiber composition. (imagine a needle the size of a pencil that the doc has to stand up on and push in with both hands into your thigh).
  • no he did not, but seriously the size of a pencil with both hands?!?? totally serious about that. 24 of us had a ruined leg for about 3 days. mark was super po'd about that. when they (ui/ioc) asked a year later if they could do our shoulders....the answer was not just NO but HE77 NO!!!
