We are going to be in Scottsdale in August for 2 weeks(no,it's not a pleasure trip.)I don''t want to get up early and I don't want to fry(I have a typical Oregon tan-fishbelly white.)My wife likes to do at least a 2 hour workout(I take less time.)Any suggestions?I have gone to "places to swim" and there are several listings,but since I am sufficiently lazy as to not want to go through each one to see which are indoors and open at the right time I thought I'd ask here.
Along with Lifetime, all of the local 24 Hour Fitness clubs have indoor pools. I've been in the one in Scottsdale a long time ago, when it was called something else. It has 25m indoor pool (it is identical to the one in Tempe and at 32nd St/Camelback in Phoenix). However, my experience is that the paceclock could be broken, or missing.
If you're not a member, the drop-in fee is $10. If you'd be going enough, it may be worthwhile to pickup a membership from Costco, and it would also work if there are 24 Hour clubs near home (I've been to a few in the Portland, OR area).
I've been a member of 24 Hour for about 5 years; it is a pretty basic club (not as posh as Lifetime), but suits me, and I like that I can go to any club without an upcharge.
LA Fitness is another option, they typically have indoor pools.
Most of the Y's have outdoor pools, except for downtown Phoenix. It is a bit of a PITA getting to, parking, etc. But if you happen to be in the area, it could work. I haven't been there for years (like 15), but I've heard it has recently been refurbished.
If you can start a workout by 7, the sun shouldn't be too horrible yet. Or perhaps if you swim in the evening (like 6pm or after). Scottsdale has some good pools, Cactus, McDowell Mountain Ranch, and Eldorado. But if you're going to swim at those times, you might as well come to Kino :)
