Lance not allowed to swim in masters competition

dfw.cbslocal.com/.../ Lance withdrew voluntarily, but what would USMS have done if he hadn't.
  • I think this is a total red herring. If FINA is the governing body for swimming, they're the governing body for swimming. The fact they don't recognize SCY competition as far as records, etc. doesn't mean it's outside their purview as the governing body for swimming. Thanks! I don't fully understand all the relationships involved which is why I ask.

Personally I would hope they would let him swim. Masters swimming should be about inclusiveness. How far does your “inclusiveness” go? Maybe USMS should recruit the infamous Ben Johnson of Canada track sprinting fame. We could probably find some way to simulate corked bat’s and have Sammy Sosa and Albert Belle sprint a 50 or two. What about Rosie “short cut” Ruiz the first women across the line in the 1980 Boston Marathon, she could do a 1200 for a 1650 time. But let’s not stop there; we might as well invite the entire 1970’s East German women’s Olympic swim team. cdn.bleacherreport.net/.../1976_kornelia_ender_1578749_display_image.jpg

Are we happy or sad that he cannot compete? Do we worship this guy or hate him. I took one anabolic steroid pill when my doctor said it will make you stronger. I then researched what it was and that was it one pill and never again. I have heard once a druggy always a druggy. My wife just made a suggestion, "Why doesn't he get a job and stay out of sight."

We had "corked bats" they are called "tech suits" And we got rid of them :) Hmmm I wonder how many of you in the let him swim camp would be willing to get off the internet and go into a room full of Lance’s (LA) victims, face to face, and explain you’re rational. Let’s start with Emma O’Reilly whom Lance sued libel and publically referred to as a prostitute and an alcoholic. In the same room will have Betsy and Frankie Andreu, who received voice mails from LA’s close friend Stephanie Mcllvain that stated “I hope somebody breaks a baseball bat over your head” Or Mike Anderson, LA’s former personal assistant who felt he had to move his family out of the United States to get away from his intimidations. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I know this kind of PR probably works in the “Outlaw Racing League” the bad boys of racing and all that, but USMS demographics are probably a bit more NPR and a little less NASCAR, don’t you think? Finally if it’s a typical masters meet, many of are participants are parents and there kids cheer them on. How are you going to explain this one? “Hey Dad, why does this swim meet allow the worlds greatest sports cheater to compete?

Is that what they call come-uppance? I dunno if his participating is good or bad for usms. As I read the FINA part, it sounds more like FINA asked USMS to bar him rather than require it outright, and merely that the two organizations got involved in discussion about it was enough for him (or his publicity guy) to pull the plug and just say "prolly not worth it." Either way, as was said... USMS was in national news today. Now that we officially exist to the masses, (jamesearljonesvoice)"people will come"(/jamesearljonesvoice).... Right?

at, but USMS demographics are probably a bit more NPR and a little less NASCAR, don’t you think? Personnally, I am more of NASCAR guy than NPR, but that's just me. If we were to go with your examples listed above, how many other people that belong or have belonged to usms would have to be banned from competing for bullying tactics? Let's not be naive to think that Lance is the only person in usms(past and present) to have a shady side.
  • It looks like Lance is ineligible for a "sanctioned" event. Wonder if he could enter a recognized one? His story is well known, and lots of folks do not care for him. On the other hand, he has a desire to compete, so I personally would have no issue with him doing so.
