Is that what they call come-uppance?
I dunno if his participating is good or bad for usms. As I read the FINA part, it sounds more like FINA asked USMS to bar him rather than require it outright, and merely that the two organizations got involved in discussion about it was enough for him (or his publicity guy) to pull the plug and just say "prolly not worth it."
Either way, as was said... USMS was in national news today. Now that we officially exist to the masses, (jamesearljonesvoice)"people will come"(/jamesearljonesvoice)....
