Lance not allowed to swim in masters competition

dfw.cbslocal.com/.../ Lance withdrew voluntarily, but what would USMS have done if he hadn't.

  • Just to stir up the pot with a hypothetical and then walk away... What if Lance jumped up and swam in an empty lane during a heat of the 500. The timing system operator turns off the pad for this lane and there is no official time recorded and there are no timers in this lane for this heat. And I guess to keep the story going, he doesn't even get a lap counter on the bulkhead. I believe insurance is preserved for swimmers at the meet because Lance is a USMS member. His coach gets a watch time on him for posterity. There is no official record of him swimming in the meet. Obviously there would be video in this day and age - somebody would invariably post it to YouTube. How would this situation be received and what ramifications would it have on USMS and FINA?
