I'm currently UNAT (been training pretty much by myself and have competed in one meet), but would like to participate in relays in Indy. Don't know many people in my LMSC, but do in others where I grew up. What can I do? Oh, also I've entered the Indy meet as UNAT.
Not 100% sure there since you have already registered for Indy. Someone who is more familiar with rules should be able to guide you. I am sure another Forum member can chime in on this one.
OK- if I find a club between now and the meet; can I become "attached" to that club and swim relays?
Yes, you can. Contact the registrar of the LMSC in which the club is located to find out how to transfer to that club. Once you have transferred, contact USMS at usms (at) usms (dot) org to let us know that you need to change your club affiliation on your Nationals meet entry.
If you have been unattached for at least 60 days since last belonging to a USMS club (if you previously belonged to a USMS club), you can affiliate with a USMS club (article 201.3.5 of the USMS rule book), BUT as noted by the above response, since you have already entered nationals as unattached you will have to notify the meet host of a valid club transfer prior to the first event in which you swim at nationals (104.5.4A of the USMS rule book). It's better to notify the meet host through USMS as soon as possible of such a change. When you register at nationals and pick up your heat sheet and entry card, read the club affiliation next to your name in the heat sheet and on the entry card to be sure your affiliation is correct. If it is not correct, immediately notify the meet host of the error and present your current USMS registration card BEFORE competing.
