As part of the the USMS Fitness Committee's ongoing efforts to encourage new and exciting forms of fitness, we'd like to get a feel for what you do for fun in the pool.
Today's topic:
“It’s My Birthday and I’ll Swim if I Want to”
Many swimmers do special things for a birthday swim such as swimming their age number of 50’s or 100’s. Some may be even more creative! What do you do?
My birthday is Valentine's Day and the Auburn Masters meet is the weekend closest to that, so that's pretty cool.
I'm turning 36, which is a square number, so I'll try to come up with something relating to that. I could always do 6 x 600 or 6 sets of 6 x 100 but maybe I (or you!) can come up with something more creative.
(One of the perils of being the child of a mathematician is that you are always looking for "cool" features of numbers.)
Remember too that there are 36 inches in a one yard swim, so if you are tired, tapering, or not feeling well, you only have to jump into the pool 1 yard to reach a "36" inch workout. :) But, in case you are more motivated, remember too that 36 is a very cool number and age with lots of integer "goesintos" like 1x36, 2x18, 3x12, and 4x9, so the 6x6 sq need not get all of the attention. And then there's great potential for combinations like 3x thru a 3x4 (100s) and 4x thru a 3x3 (75s). Thinking 37 will be a lot more difficult. Happy Birthday on Vday and wishing good swims at Auburn. I did the Atlantic City Pageant Swim just before my last bday and had a great time.
