Article written by P. Whitten.
I did not know that USMS does not belong to USADA. Rumor mill speculates that a percentage (small? large?) of masters records (FINA, USMS) were set by athletes on performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).
Did anyone read the Both Sides of the Lane Line issue on testing for PEDs in masters? I was kind of shocked by Jeff Erwin's contention that USADA says you can't put on muscle mass past 30 without PEDS. I thought that was directly contrary to research.
It is contrary to the research.I have found articles about people in their 80s increasing muscle mass via weight lifting. In fact, that same issue of Swimmer has an article on people, average age 59, gaining muscle mass.I could not find anywhere that the USADA made such a claim.
