Armstrong and USMS - Swimming world article

www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../33152.asp Article written by P. Whitten. I did not know that USMS does not belong to USADA. Rumor mill speculates that a percentage (small? large?) of masters records (FINA, USMS) were set by athletes on performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

  • If Lance is booted from USMS then everyone else who ever tested positive for PEDs should also be booted. Personally I don't think USMS needs to go down that path. But isn't his lifetime ban due in part to the egregious nature of his doping? Though I get your point that under USMS's vague standards, anyone who has tested positive could theoretically be subject to a grievance proceeding. Does anyone think Lance has stopped doping now that he is past his TDF years? I don't. I think he would have carried on doping (or did) in his ironman tri pursuits. Did anyone read the Both Sides of the Lane Line issue on testing for PEDs in masters? I was kind of shocked by Jeff Erwin's contention that USADA says you can't put on muscle mass past 30 without PEDS. I thought that was directly contrary to research.
