I got a FINIS snorkle for Christmas and have been trying it. I felt it would help me keep my HEAD DOWN! I remember Rowdy saying that "head too high" (freestyle) was the most common Masters mistake.
What I found by using the snorkle was that I must have been really "shorting" my pull my left side. (Left side is my breathing side.) Using the snorkle, my left arm got tired quickly (after about 350 yds straight freestyle swimming). I tend to take long breaths (at least during workouts) so I am hoping I can improve the balance of my stroke by learning to keep my head down for better body position plus get less of a "long breath" each time.
I think I have been swimming like this since I was 8 when I joined an AAU team. I'm sure snorkle training has come up somewhere/sometime in this forum. I will run a search.
Any general tips? I'm not as brave as Elaine and have no one to video me anyway.
Thanks Allen for the link. It was very helpful. I seached for the thread using "SEARCH" after I was on the FORUM page and still couldn't find it though I knew I read the thread approx. a month ago. Is there something different about the SEARCH button now that the redesign is here? Am I doing something wrong with my SEARCH?
