Easy Pre-Race Hair Removal For Guys (especially Wookiee)

Hey guys! Are you looking for the easiest way to remove hair before your next big meet? Wookiee, do I have a solution for you! Just come pay a visit to Elaine-iaK, here in Georgia, and I will get you in on a pass to our community pool. No razors, no Nair, no nothin'. All you need to do is swim in our pool and the hair removal will be done for you, pain-free! :agree: Just make sure to wear a cap, if you plan on keeping the hair on your head. :afraid: This past week, tapering for St. Nick's, I swam exclusively at our pool, rather than commuting an hour roundtrip to train with my coach. And, during this past week, I lost all of the hair on my arms, half of my eyebrow hair (some broke off, other hairs turned white at the tips:censor:), and the hair in front of my ears that sticks out of my cap turned brown with white ends. (I have black hair, normally!) My Speedo Endurance has held up , but the stitching is starting to come out. Meanwhile, I have watched one of the noodler's suit turn from navy blue to light gray. Needless to say, our chlorine and other chemical levels have gone way out of wack while our maintenance guy has been :bed:. But, the pool maintenance company guys heard allll about it, when I saw them today. :D So, while they are trying to correct the problem, come on down to Georgia for the easiest hair removal ever! And, don't worry about clogging the drains, Wookiee; it will give our maintenance guy something to do. :bolt:
  • Do you get your caps custom made to fit? forums.usms.org/attachment.php No. I wonder if USMS would approve of a fullbody swim cap for me? :lmao: I think they would make an exception for you, given the risk you are to pool drains (and ph balance?) everywhere! :worms:
  • Add 100 dozen eggs, 11,000 lbs of flour, 750 lbs of powdered milk, turn the heat way up before you leave for 6-8 hours, bring forks, plates, large candles in the morning :cake:. You'll be able to celbrate an entire year's worth of HOA birthdays at once.:D Hopefully nothing more than hair-loss results, but a little to close to the edge i think. :lmao:
  • Thank you VERY much for mentioning this, because it motivated me to do the same. After speaking with the pool maintenance company and HOA on Monday, I expected something to be done immediately to solve the problem. Instead, it has gotten worse. :afraid: So, I took a sample right over to our local pool supply store to be tested. It turns out that it wasn't the chlorine level causing the bad odor and taste; it was everything else that was way off! The chorline was actually at a normal 2.0. But, these were the levels that were off: ph 7.0 (should be 7.4-7.6) Alkalinity 0 ppm (!!!) (should be 100-150) :bitching: Cyanuric Acid 10 ppm (should be 30-50) :bouncing: Phosphate 1000 ppb (should be 1-32) :censor: What the *&%$??? Not only was our staff maintenance guy not doing his job correctly; the pool maintenance company who maintains our pool on Mondays and Thursdays don't know what the :censor: they are doing! I was told by the gal who tested the water that in order for the alkalinity to be at 0, this has been going on for a long time, like, probably a couple of months! I know things have seemed off to me for at least the past few weeks. Needless to say, I gave our HOA a copy of the report and recommended they immediately shut down the pool and get this resolved. Our pool needs 147 pounds of baking soda, 19 pounds of cyanuric acid, and 1-1/2+qts. of phosphate to get it back in balance. And, it will take a few days. So, I guess I will be going elsewhere to swim... :badday: Meanwhile, I don't even want to think about else this has done to my body, besides hair loss. Im glad my story gave you the idea having a sample analyzed. Its shocking how little some pool maintenance people know about everything else but chlorine!! If it doesnt get better, please call the Department of Health. Its a drastic step but at least you know then something will happen.
  • No thanks. I like my hair. I have no desire to ever shave a again, for any meet. That stinks that your pool was so screwed-up. Do you get your caps custom made to fit? forums.usms.org/attachment.php

I guess when the "little old ladies" with the floaties and water aerobics start noticing that the skirts on their suits are turning colors and they're missing hair from parts of their body that have hair--then maybe something will be done. What about contacting the dept of health even though it isn't a public pool? They could shut it down (and fine the HOA if it stays open) until the tests can be repeated by the dept of health lab.
  • My heavens!!!--Little old ladies complaining about something else other than temperature and being splashed!! At my complex we had 2 guys certified to test and treat the water--both left after WE paid for the classes. Last year we had a company come in and had residents do the actual water checks (with the colored chemicals). This year we're looking for another company to do the pool main't including the chemicals. Haven't heard any complaints, yet, but we don't have a large enough pool (good sized backyard size--inground) for people to be in for hours on end. Most just sit around and socialize and kids aren't known for complaining. Just be glad, this time, that you've got additional backing. Of course--for the little old ladies it is coming down to dollars and cents---those fashion swimsuits aren't cheap! :D Yeah, that, and they love to gossip and start drama. :worms: Although, now, it's a good thing! I am seriously going to look into: 1. How much it costs to get CPO certified and where I can take the class. 2. How much the water testing kit costs. I will be asking these questions to the pool supply store who did the sample test for me. Because, if our HOA (it has yet to be turned over to the residents, so it is still run by the developer and their hired HOA management company) chooses to retain the current pool maintenance company and continues to "trust" them (their word; not mine), I will be testing the water myself before I swim. And, I will be doing so on a weekly basis, reporting any imbalance issues to the HOA, etc. :agree:

  • This probably goes on at private pools all the time.It is a good thing they have someone like you to monitor this mess.I wish you well, probably this won't help your popularity, but doing things right is, unfortunately rarely popular.

Being "popular" was never high on my priority list; but doing the right thing is. ;) Actually, the noodlers love me right now, because I am leading their fight. I actually got a "thank you" e-mail from one of them today! :D The HOA management company, our developer, and the pool maintenance company, however, is another story. I'm sure they would all love to see me:bolt:. I could give a hoot as to whether I am popular with them or not. My health and the health of our residents using the pool (especially the ones using it for therapy) is what's important. It's just too bad they don't see it the same way. With them, it's all about $$$. King Frog, I hope you and Mrs. Frog have a very merry :carolers: :presents2:(if you celebrate it) and a happy new year!
