dec 2012 swimming world magazine has picture of champion freestyle swimmer Yannick Angel from underwater during his catch. He has three middle fingers tightly together but little finger splayed out at 30 degrees and thumb significantly abducted. This seems to go against common belief in slightly spread relaxed fingers as the most efficient position. Chris Hiatt

I keep my fingers held adjacent to each other after catch. Keeps golfers elbow symptoms minimal. During catch I open the fingers some and try to hold the water.
