Read 'em and weep...
The preliminary Top 10 listings for the 2012 long-course meters season, which ran 10/1/11 - 9/30/12, are now available. Please check for inaccuracies and email Mary Beth Windrath, or PM me, with potential corrections by Nov 24.

Why would you want to be indicated #1 if you AREN'T #1? Wouldn't it be like taking a blue ribbon when you placed second?
As it is, I feel like all of my places should be asterisk'd simply because I know there are faster people out there than me that maybe didn't swim LCM season.
Shrug.
Why would you pick up your gold medal at USMS Nationals if you knew that you aren't #1 in the nation? Aren't you considered a National Champion by winning there?
Why would you pick up any medal. Ever?! Of course they are always people faster than you. That's why it's Master swimming and not open swimming.
The Trials times were added very recently to the Top Ten lists. OT were a while ago. Of course it's a bummer when you suddenly drop 2-3 spots when you bust your butt all LCM season to reach your goals.
But that's just my personal opinion. Like you have yours.
For those of you who would like to discover the secret to a flukish and first-ever No. 1 time in the marquee event of all swimming, the 100 meters long course freestyle...
Way to go Jim, TT in every freestyle event except the 1500? Not bad for an old guy.

Yes, sorry about that. Anna Lea gave a deadline for responses from the swimmers she contacted and only loaded the results after that deadline.
Everyone should realize too that some meet results are never loaded into the national results database, which feeds into the "current event rankings" listings, but they can still be submitted for Top 10 consideration.
Or sometimes they are only loaded just before the Top 10 data are due from the recorders (some time after the season ends), even though we specify that it is good to have them up within 2 weeks of the event. Sometimes that isn't possible if the data are in a funky format (for example, FINA world championship results took awhile to get uploaded for this reason) or if the meet director needs to verify things like heat/lane changes or relay names or whatever.
But generally people are getting better at uploading meet results into the database in a timely fashion, so current event rankings more closely reflect the final Top 10 listings.
I would like to thank Janet Evans, arguably the greatest non-OW distance swimmer ever, for preserving my motivation by failing to ask for her OT results to be included.

This statement is false. The reason you don't see Janet Evan's times in the results of the Olympic Trials is because she was not a 2012 USMS Registered Masters Swimmer. She was a member in 2011. There were many past members of USMS and there times were not included and there were some future members of USMS that were not included in the top ten. Future members are defined as Olympic Trial swimmers joining the USMS after the Olympic Trials meet was over. I know of two swimmers that joined after the trials were over and there times did not count.
Does anybody know why times from Olympic Trails were added to the Top Ten list? It seems they don't count for records though.
This addition cost me 4 #1 spots!
Motivation for next season = down the drain
I am not sure if this statement is entirely true. Since I don't know who you are and what age group you come from, I really don't know if it cost you 4 Number 1 spots.
Before the Olympic Trials results were loaded in the Top Times Data Base, there was another meet loaded and it was probably the 2nd fastest meet with Trials being the first. It was called PRO DUEL and it was held on November 16 and 17, 2011. In the Michigan LMSC, I had swimmers request that there times count for USMS Top Ten Times.
Eugene Godsoe, BJ Johnson, Elliot Keefer, Nelson Wesby and Nick Brunelli all set potential USMS Records but they didn't want there times for records to count because they were going to go a lot faster at Olympic Trials than at this meet. Its a good thing because the times were not saved on the CTS system and that is a requirement for USMS Records, so its just as well they didn't want them to count because they would not have anyway. However, all of the times would count for top ten.
After the Olympic Trials were over, about 75% of the swims disappeared in the Top Times data base. So you can be your own judge if these times were to count would you still be knocked out of 4 Number 1 slots.

Aren't you considered a National Champion by winning there?
If you win an event at nationals, you are the national champion in that age group for that event.
The person that wins the event maybe the fastest in the age group that year. The person may not be the fastest that year. The fastest person may not have attended nationals or picked a different event that day. Neither of those matter to the person that won a national championship. The person that won the event showed-up to race that day. That is all that matters to him/her.
I have won 2 titles at nationals. I know that there faster swimmers in those events, but they didn't swim them that year. For the rest of my life, I will be able to claim national titles in my swimming career, which is something I never thought would happen in usms for me. Nothing will take the smile off my face from when I recieved my medals for swimming the events.

actually I edited that as quick as possible and u weren't supposed to have gotten that version. it came off pretty bad as written that's why I changed it to.something that was more what I was after with my question.
