I just recently posted about increasing my workouts, which I have done to some extent. I swam 2000 yds Friday and Monday (Saturday dry land weight training; Sunday rest).
I am experiencing a lot of soreness (even before increasing). Yes, to some extent, I feel invigorated, but feel sore a good bit of the time. I feel like I am swallowing Alleve tablets like candy (2-4 a day). I take tons of supplements and have been using Dotfit Lean MR powder post-workout. Whatever I am doing isn't really working.
I don't want to feel like this. Any suggestions?
I have been working out on and off over the years. After a sedentary period of a few years, I started working out in earnest again in April 2011, following a health scare (borderline diabetes). I added swimming in June 2012 to prepare for a masters meet with some old swim team friends, and have been swimming ever since.
I am a former competitive swimmer (from ages 9-18), and just did my second masters meet after a 36 year layoff! I am an expert skier, and have always liked and played sports...but in recent years it's mostly been skiing...and softball in the summer. I have a muscular build, with a few extra pounds (~19% body fat), but have always considered myself to be merely average in terms of natural athletic ability (e.g., I was on the high school football and baseball teams, but saw little playing time).
Before recently increasing my yardage, I was doing about 1/2-3/4 of a mile, 2-3 times week, and usually one additional day of weight training with a trainer (pretty vigorous, this guy doesn't mess around).
I actually don't have any real injuries, and I am fairly sure my mechanics are correct. I am thinking that maybe I need to do more stretching.
My diet is pretty good. I eat fruits, veggies, lean meats, and avoid junk food...my biggest offense it the occasional bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, or a slice of pizza here and there.
