I have had two paid of goggles break on me in the past month. I had one pair for less than a month and another pair for about ten months. Both if them broke at the nosepiece. It just split. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice or tips?
What kind/type of Goggles?
There are some types of Goggles where the nose piece is replaceable. Those types of Goggles usually come with space nose pieces.
One of each. I had a pair with the nose piece replaceable but it broke in a place where I cannot replace it. It was a pair of Nike. The other pair was just one solid piece across and it snapped while swimming. I am not sure what type it was.
Are you wearing your goggles too tight?
I've had real old goggles (2 yrs - Hydrospecs) that eventually had the neoprene nosepiece start to split, but I replaced them after the crack reached 50% of the distance. I've never had a pair just "go" unless I tried to pull them on when they were way too tight.
I am hard on goggles. Solid nose pieces work better for me than flexible ones, but then I get breakage at the nose piece.
what has worked for me is always putting them away in the case I bought them in.
I'm using Speedo vanquishers and with this treatment, I have two pair that have lasted a year. I used to only get 2 months out of goggles.
U.S. Masters Swimming Discussion Forums The nose piece on goggles are the weakest point of the goggle, due to the small size and amount of pressure needed to secure the goggles for a leak proof seal. But! They should never break, especially when they are new. I would call the company and have them send you a replacement.

I recommend trying the Speedo Vanquisher or Speed Socket, both are solid goggles...and they do seem to hold up better than others. Try loosening up your straps, switch up your nosepieces (maybe you need a bigger/smaller one), and definintely put them in a case when u r done. I have had bad luck with tyr and finis. Good luck to you. I would also ask for a replacement for the month old goggles.
Ps, if u like wider goggles I have many friends who love the tyr nest pros. I have never seen them break.
I have never had a sweedish goggle nosepiece break aside from a pair that were ten years old and the string had degraded down to nothing. I pulled on them to see how much strength was left intending to fix them anyway. Affixed a new 4" piece of string and they're ready for another ten years. :)
20 years ago when i started swimming and i was using speedo sprit goggles i'd break the nosepiece on a regular basis, on the order of one a month. If sweeds work for you, you may never look back.
