the 2013 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships begins today As a former Big 8 (now Big 12 conference) swimmer, it’s sad to see the results. Do the Texas men get tired of chanting 1-2-3 (sometimes 1-2-3-4-5) after each final? It’s a good thing West Virginia didn’t have an early take-off in the Men’s 400 Medley Relay, otherwise all 3 teams would have been DQ’ed and no points would have been awarded.:(

lots of "B" cuts at the big12 meet but not that many "A" cuts. i looked at the Big10 and SEC meets. overall, big12 was much slower. such a crying shame to see some events with not even a full heat in the consoles. if mcbroom isnt tapered....wow look out!

Some are saying the invite line may be around 28-30 on the men’s side. And seeing McBroom’s other in-season times, it did look like he swam through Big 12’s. Although a 14:33 mile is just a second off his time last year.

Ande, even last year wasnt it still just 3 teams? (ut, a&m, mizzu) gone are the great days of the SWC and having UT,A&M,Arkansas,Tech,Rice,TCU,SMU at the conference meet (or even the relay meet for that matter)!

Hey Steve, Those days are gone, many teams have cut their mens swim teams. Swimming is not a money maker, between budget struggles and Title IX. The Big 12 meet is about getting guys qualified for NCAAs. Ande

One big change is there should be fewer swimmers entered in the 50, 100. & 200 fr Last yr there were: 83 men entered in the 50 fr 80 men entered in the 100 fr & 62 men entered in the 200 fr Most got in the meet by way of relay, now swimmers have to get themselves in the meet, which is a more fair way, in 2012 the invited line was at 17 & 18 in the individual events Now, shouldn't all events have around the same number of swimmers invited? And maybe the # picking up 2nd & 3rd swims could be fairly close as well Out there somewhere has to be a swim nerd who's doing updated calculations to figure out times & places.
