Hey guys,
So I just wanted to share with you all that I set a goal to swim 50,000 yards this summer (i.e by the time class starts). It took me about two months, but yesterday I swam my last 1500 yards!!! I'm so happy that I managed to meet this goal, and I wanted to put it on this forum because this is the place I came to when I had zero motivation and couldn't bare the thought of swimming even one more lap. You guys also give such great tips and advice.
This goal has been instrumental in getting me to commit to seriously swimming and to help me rediscover how much I loved it. When I started I could barely swim a straight 100 yards, and by the end I had dropped 10 minutes off my 1500, about 40 seconds off my 100, and learned strokes other than freestyle.
Anyway, I mainly posting this to say thanks for all the advice and motivation, and I hope this is just the beginning of things!

Is that all? Just kidding! Seriously, nice job meeting your goal and that's some amazing improvement. So what's next? :)
Thanks everyone!
So what's next? :)
I've decided to join a local club team. Which is a little nerve-racking, but I hope will be a positive experience. Our first practice is tonight! I will say though that I have found that I really enjoy swimming more IM type things, so I may focus on that for now :)
So how many yards were you doing per practice & how many times a week did you have to swim to reach that goal?
Well I started out doing like 1500 yards 4ish times a week. Then I upped each workout to about 2000 and started going 5-6 times a week. However, I was fasting for Ramadan during some of this time, and I managed to keep up with my workouts for about 2 weeks, but then I went back home and got sick while traveling. So illness plus the exhaustion that usually comes at the end of Ramadan forced me to take a break from the water for a bit. I'm currently doing about 2000-2500 yards six times a week.
