It is with a very heavy heart I come to each and every one of you and ask for HELP. I am just one person but I know with an army behind me, together WE CAN SAVE THIS POOL!
The pool I am speaking of is located in Americus Georgia on Georgia Southwester State University campus. The pool has been slated to close at the end of September forcing ABT (Americus Blue Tide) to shut down their swim team. I am sure some of you might recognize the city mentioned as well as the Swim team. This is the very pool where the very legendary Kirt Myers coached many swimmers to national and even world status including but not limited to Angel Myers Martino Sims. The impact that will be felt if this pool is allowed to close will be astronomical. Not only will a family loose their livelihood but many swimmer both privet club and high school, will have no other place to hold practices, within an hours drive each way, the red cross will have no place to train life guards, scuba diver will have no place to practice skills, and young children will have no place to learn the important lifesaving skill of learning basic swimming skills. I am sure there are other opportunities that will be missed that I am not aware of but the state are the most obvious to me.
A face Book page has been established for people supporting Deriso pool to share ideas as well post memories of the pool. The group is also asking that people supporting swimming and or the pool compose letters to be sent to key figures of Georgia Southwestern State University.
I am asking each of you who feel moved to do so to PLEASE write a letter to any of the key individuals listed in links posted below. Many of the people on these boards don’t understand the fundamental importance of preserving this pool as well as others that are struggling to meet financial obligations.
