They never do this with the 3000 Meters in track and that is almost the equivalent in time of this race.
Call it the "NASCAR effect". The 3000 is the steeplechase. With all the obstacles there's always the possibility of someone "crashing" in a spectacular way.
Glad to hear they broadcast most of the 800. (I was out of antenna range at the time.)
