SCY 2012 Top Ten

The preliminary top ten listings for the 2012 SCY season are now available: www.usms.org/.../PRELIM_SCY12.pdf http://www.usms.org/comp/tt/ Please send corrections to Mary Beth at topten AT usms DOT org by July 30. You can also PM me with any questions or concerns. Note that there are some measurement questions about some meets that have been included in the preliminary list, so some times that are currently in the preliminary listing may be pulled. (And don't ask me which meets, because I don't know.)

  • So someone sent me a PM that brought this issue up: splits appearing in the Top 10. Normally for a split to be submitted for Top 10 consideration, you have to submit a split request by the end of the meet (except for backstroke splits and relay leadoffs, which you have to request before the swim). But most nationals are different: someone submits split requests for ALL non-backstroke splits (including relays) on behalf of everyone, and these swims get submitted for Top 10 consideration. If you want a backstroke split submitted, you have to manually request it before the swim so that the S&T judge can verify you do a legal finish. As a FYI, there is a lot going on behind the scenes to make this happen (eg, Walt Reid had to write software to get all the splits in a format to submit for TT consideration; a meet ref has to be on the lookout for fishy splits as races are happening, meet officials have to take special care for relays so that leadoffs can count) so it cannot happen easily at every meet. Another complication: only relay leadoffs get added to the USMS results database and appear in Current Event rankings (which pulls from the national DB) or your personal results. However, if you ever want a specific split to appear explicitly in the results DB than please let me know. It makes no difference in terms of Top 10 listings, but it does appear in your personal results and some people like that. If you want to know what I mean by "personal results," I am talking about this form, which queries the USMS results DB: www.usms.org/.../resultstrack.php It's a great way to collect and track how you do over the years; it should become more and more useful as we get closer to 100% compliance with uploading meet results into the national DB. Anyway, just an FYI...many times a year I get emails or PMs relating to this issue so I thought I would explain it here.
