  • Thanks for posting this Ande, I forgot that this meet started today. Megan Romano just went a meet record 53.92 in the 100 free. That time would have won the event at Trials last month. Megan was one of those swimmers who stood a seriously good chance of making the 2012 USA Olympic Team but didn't. Her 53.92 100 free (26.19 27.73) at the 2012 Open shows she deserved a spot, but you gotta do it when it counts. At 2012 trials in Omaha, her 1:57.99 200 time in Semis would have made the team but she didn't swim as fast in finals. In Finals, She went too hard on her 1st 50, started fading on her 3rd 50 then totally fell apart on her 4th 50. That had to be a definite heart breaker. (reminder to us all, the best way to swim a 200, especially LCM, is 1st 50 easy speed save your legs, BREATHE!!! then hold around the same fast time for your next 3 50's If you go out too hard on your 1st 50, your 2nd, 3rd & 4th 50's will get slower. Your race will hurt worse than it should have and you will go slower than you could have, if you'd only split it correctly. I bet that deep disappointment has made her more determined than ever to make 2016 & that she will have an awesome 200 at the Open. Which is today, in prelims she cruised a 2:01.45 for 6th & she's likely to light it up tonight.
