Yeah, I am sure I am not the only one. Not in any way an attack on her, just disappointed she wasn't faster...
I am also disappointed with how some of the swims have gone down. There have been quite a few poorly executed swims that may have resulted in missed Olympic births...
What works in your teens might not work in your 40s.
Exactly. And since (AFAIK) she did not swim in a lot of masters meets as she aged, she may not have fully realized this. I'm just guessing of course.
No, it's reasonable to wonder why she was substantially slower at the Olympic Trials than she was mid-season.
Exactly. Did she over train/ under train? Did she get hurt?
Janet wasn't alone in swimming slower. Somewhere around 80% of the swims at Trials were slower than the seed times.
I'm not sure what percentage of swimmers should improve on their seed times at Trials. The qualification period was 10/1/2009 through approx 6/15/2012, almost 3 years. How many people are supposed to swim faster than they have in the last 3 years at one given meet? :dunno:

Which probably includes a handful of meets other than Trials at which they will have been fully tapered.

Alot of people taper just to make the Trials cut. They just don't have anything left that year to swim the Trials cut at Trials.

Don't have anything left that year? Come on, Tom! Yeah, obviously most people achieve their Trials cuts while tapered. But Trials is the biggest meet most of these swimmers will ever compete in. It just seems to me that only 20% beating their seed times is pretty low. I can't answer That Guy's question about how many should swim faster, but it seems like it would be more than 20%, but maybe not. 2008 was probably the anomaly with the magic suits making everyone swim fast.
Did the 2008 cuts anticipate the boffo tech suits or not? ISTR they were released relatively close to trials, so maybe the cuts were based on the predominately textile world which existed before the invention of those crazy tech suits.
