OK - the Trials have just begun and the Olympics are a mere weeks away.
Michael Phelps has said this is his last Olympics and he'll retire from swimming after this event.
So => What do you think he'll probably do? Right now he trains by swimming at least twice a day and probably lifts weights too.
So - will he probably take a week off after the games and not swim? A month? Longer?
What do high-profile swimmers like this do when they retire. I know Rowdy Gaines is a champion masters swimmer but I'm just curious what happens.
I'm guessing he'll have to stay in some kind of shape to work on his foundation and attend public appearances.
golf, rock band bassist, racing cars, politics, finish a book, relearn how to file taxes, hang out in Tibet then find his niche back where he belongs swimming
I definitely do NOT see him becoming a commentator like Rowdy did after retirement. Phelps isn't the most articulate or intelligent athelete I have ever heard speak. :afraid:
It would kinda be cool if Phelps came to masters swimming in his 40s and set every single world record in his age group. He's totally capable of that.
Not if Lochte's waiting for him. :D

I like this.
The cool thing is Michael can probably do about anything he wants when he retires.
I disagree with Elaine, I think Michael presents himself very well and could turn into an interesting and well informed color commentator.

He has said he wants to travel the world. And actually see things, instead of pools.
