OK - the Trials have just begun and the Olympics are a mere weeks away.
Michael Phelps has said this is his last Olympics and he'll retire from swimming after this event.
So => What do you think he'll probably do? Right now he trains by swimming at least twice a day and probably lifts weights too.
So - will he probably take a week off after the games and not swim? A month? Longer?
What do high-profile swimmers like this do when they retire. I know Rowdy Gaines is a champion masters swimmer but I'm just curious what happens.
I'm guessing he'll have to stay in some kind of shape to work on his foundation and attend public appearances.
For whatever reason I have a feeling when Michael hangs up the goggles he'll hang them up for good and we won't see him swimming, commenting, coaching, anything.
I agree it's more likely he will "fade to black" after this olympics. Thinking about Spitz, Evans, and Thorpe; it was only very recently that Evans came back. We do see Spitz and Thorpe at times. Understandably they want a "real life" after swimming. Hope he does show up at sometime.
