Orthopaedic doc? Question about T.O.C. & breaststroke

Hey Forumites! Is there an orthopaedic specialist out there who swims and is familiar with thoracic outlet syndrome? I have a theory regarding TOS and swimming 200 breaststroke, and would like to know if I'm on to something here. I don't need a consultation; I would just like to ask a question to another Forumite who is familiar with both angles; TOS and breaststroke technique. If you will send me a PM, I would most appreciate bouncing this off you! Thanks! :agree:

  • Thanks for the good wishes, Elaine. I'll try that test, although I think my arm will hold up longer than yours did. You must have had some very serious compression of the artery. I tried 10 events in a two day meet two years ago. People looked at me like I was crazy, and afterward I knew why! You're much tougher than I am, so good luck! Thanks! Obviously, this is a meet where I fully understand a goal of a personal best time in my core events (breaststroke) would be unrealistic. So, I abandoned any hope of that before I registered for that many events. Yes, it's crazy to have signed up for the events I chose, but I just want to see what I am capable of doing. I did that with my endurance fly and, again, when I swam a back-to-back 3k and 1k open water swim earlier in the month. It is rewarding in a different sort of way and brings a great sense of accomplishment.
