The article said he "faded at the end". I know he has had that problem, but also at the time of the tech suit controversy it was speculated that the suits helped swimmers like him more since it is easier to be a drop dead sprinter for 46 sec than for 48(and even easier for 40 in SCY.)
Bernard is on the French squad for the 4x100 relay. There were quite a few upsets at the French trials: www.swimnews.com/.../9310
I'm really surprised that Bousquet did not make the team.
And about "the right times", he went ridiculously fast in the Olympic 4x100 in 2008.Maybe fatherhood has slowed him down;) He's still one of the greatest sprinters in my book.

I guess I am not. It seems like since his days at Auburn wearing the Jaked suits, he really hasn't done much. That's not to say he isn't an awesome swimmer, just not getting it done at the right times.

He never wore a Jaked at Auburn, and he holds the world non-rubberized record in the 50 free. And about "the right times", he went ridiculously fast in the Olympic 4x100 in 2008. So what are you even talking about?
Fred's always been something of an extremely talented but inconsistent headcase in anything outside of NCAA action. Pre-tech suits, he was the guy who would throw down a 46 second relay split in the 4x100 free relay at WCs, and then fail to make it out of the semifinals in the individual 100M free a few days later.
