Kids that already have NCAA A cuts most likely won't do a full taper for their conference meet. It's just too close to NCAAs. Stanford always gets criticized for putting too much emphasis on winning their conference meet and then under performing at NCs. Since they've won 30 years in a row they've got a lot at stake!
