Hello, I live in Hallandale beach (FL) and I want to do a lifeguard course. I'm from Argentina and that course (red cross certificated) there it takes 8-10 months, so I was wondering how is it possible that here all lifeguards courses I see takes just 20-40hs. Is there any lifeguard course better (or more complete) than the red cross one? Thanks

I just went through all the classes for the various cert's that you need for Lifeguarding in just 3 days. Why would it take so long????

8 to 10 months? That sounds more like an higher level EMT or a Paramedic certification. The Red Cross is the main lifeguarding certification which takes about a week to complete. I believe they also have an open water certification. There is also J. Ellis which is like a risk management company that has certification that's a little more intense than the Red Cross. Since its a risk management company, the audit the lifeguards and from what I've heard are held to higher standers than the Red Cross.
