I'm guilty of it. I imagine we're all guilty of it: seeing a meet announcement and seeing our favorite two events back to back, or four events we want to swim on one day and then only 1 then next day. We get irritated and wonder why the meet director couldn't have designed this to better suit our needs? We moan at workout, whine on the forums, ***** on our blogs, etc. I'd like to encourage my fellow forumites to join me in taking a pledge:
I hereby pledge to:
just be grateful that there are volunteers, teams and facilities willing to host Masters meets,
recognize that no matter how hard these dedicated volunteers try, they'll never be able to create the order of events that satisfies all Masters swimmer,
recognize that, even if I can't swim those two favorite events in this meet because they are back to back (or whatever my complaint is), I've got a multi-decade Masters career ahead of me in which to swim them at different meets,
to, therefore, stop whining/moaning about the order of events, and
look at a different order of events as an opportunity to branch out and try new events!
Signed,
Patrick "Indebted to Masters Meet Directors/Officials/Volunteers" Brundage
I'm down with this. I like to think that I haven't done any whining about event order, but I certainly have been guilty of mocking event order when I perceive silliness. Perhaps I am deluding myself by believing that there is a difference.
Anyway, like Ande says, train everything, swim anything!
I pledge to continue to call out pseudo pledge takers who turn around and request a split request and blow up a whole event. That's my pledge, book it.
This will not include my request for a 12.5 split request on my 50 *** this weekend.

As a frequent split requester and diva sprinter, I can only take the pseudo pledge.
"Train everything, swim everything" -- no comprendo.

The 400 IM and 200 fly are two of my best events so I don't really fear anything. But don't worry, you can still make fun of my futile attempts to throw down in stuff like the 50 free and 50 ***. "Uh, TG, that's not what 'throw down' means. Put your suit back on."

It's easier for you mid-D types to go down to sprints, and it's probably good for you to do some speed work. There is nothing remotely beneficial about a sprinter training for or competing in 200 buststrokes.

Sprinter get tough, swim event not in summer leagues.:thhbbb:

Yeah, I had to figure that out the hard way... I thought could train all three breaststroke events and improve all three, but, no can do; at least not effectively. King Frog is the only one I know who can be that good in the 100 and 50 breaststroke- and break the WR in the 200!
I have been training, lately, for the 50 and 100 and will only compete in the 200 for "fun" :afraid:. (I pledge not to care about my times in the 200 breaststroke. :bolt:)
Now, back to the thread ( :hijack: ), Patrick, I'm with you on this. I agree; we are fortunate to have volunteers who organize and run these meets for us. And, there will always be swimmers who will be unhappy with the event order (including me). But, I pledge not to whine about it.

No 100 strokes in our summer league. So I'm good. :D
You need a good whacking with my monofin.
I reserve the right to whine when I feel people are picking on us poor breaststrokers.I have also joined complaints by backstrokers and butterflyers when they were "discriminated" against so don't get "strokist"on me.
The guideline is simple, you divide the meet into sections and make sure that no 2 events of the same stroke in the same section.
For a butterflyer or breaststroker wanting good times in all 3 events there needs to be appropriate spacing. You can't get splits because there are no other options for when to get the other times as swimming fly in a free event is still free, not fly.A backstroker has more options for splits with the IMs and relays, but the point still stands.
No 100 strokes in our summer league.
Really? PV really is wimpy...we have 100 strokes for the upper age-groups. I can't remember exactly, I think only the "non-Novice" swimmers actually do them.
We probably have fewer swimmers, though the meets last long enough. My son requested NOT to do summer league this year because he was so frustrated with the late-night meets (which would go even later with thunderstorms). He prefers to do only USA-S swimming in the summer. That makes me a little sad, when I was a kid summer league swimming was a blast even through HS.
