2012 Postal Championship swims

The blogs show swimmers throwing down the mileage on the One Hour Postal swim, to be completed by the end of January. (Thereafter one looks forward to the rest of the series, the 5k and 10k, the 3000yd and 6000yd.) Any thoughts on your experience swimming this year's postals, or previous years? For massive encouragement, here is a blog post from Throwmeintheocean on doing a 6-hour cold-water swim in Malta to complete a basic requirement for marathon swims: throwmeintheocean.com/.../ :)

I think the one hour postal is the hardest event in all of USMS. Even the postals that take longer than an hour don't seem quite as challenging. Agreed. It's definitely easier swimming a set distance than knowing you will swim for a set time no matter how hard you go. Also, replacing flip turns with really long, relaxing, gliding open turns added over 20 minutes to my 10k time.
