he got tired, his 250 splits were:
2:29.94 2:38.05
he had an 8 second difference between his 1st 250 & his 2nd
he didn't drop the hammer on his last 50 or build the last 3
splits:
27.62 29.88 57.50
30.39 30.83 61.22 1:27.89 1:58.72
31.22 31.32 62.54 2:29.94 3:01.26
31.67 31.88 63.55 3:32.93 4:04.81
31.83 31.47 63.30 4:36.64 5:08.11
The 500 is a painful race. it's only 10 50's but going a bit too hard on your first few 50's really affects your last 5
my guess is his swim training is spotty and his travel schedule is heavy
27.62 is awful hard effort to start your 500. Especially when you probably swim less than once a week. I saw an underwater video of him a year ago - his stroke was akin to someone who doesn't swim too often.

He's trained to hunch over the handlebars. I imagine that significantly affects his stroke form.
To be honest I think he died. Not terribly, but he died!
I would also be interested to see how often he swims every week. Agree he could have splitted this a little better and maybe gone a 5:06 with better pacing.

Federal prosecutors dropped their investigation of Lance Armstrong on Friday, ending a nearly two-year effort aimed at determining whether the seven-time Tour de France winner and his teammates participated in a doping program.
:applaud:
That's great news for Lance AND his L.A.F. (Livestrong Foundation)!
As for his 500 time, it would have put him in the Top Ten list, if he had been a USMS swimmer last year. :applaud:
