long, continuous swims

Do top swimmers, like Phelps, also do long, continuous swims at times or do they only do interval training? Does anyone here ever do long, continuous swims? I basically only do interval training and maybe add longer distances in my workout but I never do a complete workout as a continuous swim. Should one also include continuous swim sessions?

I try and do a "distance tolerance" set every week. Currently, I'm working up to: 10 x 800, each 800 followed by a fast 200; :10 rest after each set. But so far, I've only gotten to set 8, I just get so bored. :snore: Would be easier if I had access to a LCM pool. I would love that set. Especially if I could get someone to swim it with me. I really enjoy long, continuous swims. I don't do many of them because I'm afraid that they will 1.) Magically make me slower or 2.) Screw up my training by wearing me out. When I do a long, continuous swim, I sometimes get fatigued 5-10 days later. It spooks me to be going along just fine, feeling great after my long swim, and then Bam!
