My resolutions:
1. Last month, I discovered "Go the Distance" and inputted all my yardage from the past year. With a week and a half left in the year, I have put in 660 miles. Looking at the top of the GTD results, I see that a "Don Tatzin" has the most mileage of anybody this year with 1685. That is almost 3 million yards. For 2012, I resolve to top 3 million yards and the GTD list.
2. Get under :50 in the 100 yard freestyle. PB stands at 53.13 from last July. My current season goal for the event is even harder, but that's between me and my coach.
3. Get under :23 in the 50 yard freestyle. PB stands at 24.58 from last July. Current season goal is even harder, " "... The NY resolution makes for a nice little stepping stone.
4. Attain a QT for a Grand Prix, even if it's not for this current GP season.
5. Become the best I possibly can within the confines of Jan 01 12 to Jan 01 13.
I have no idea how ridiculous some of these might be, but with Darth Real Life all sorted out and logistics of classes and job all worked out, I still have a lot of extra time that can be spent at pools, for which I am very thankful. If you doubt me, I forgive you in advance (but I won't forget your words).
What are your swimming New Year's resolutions? And if you don't believe in NY resolutions, then what do you think you can do to improve your swimming?

Sweet! :applaud: Nice song, Ande!
Ande, thanks so much for your advice, tips, suggestions, sets, and encouragement, this year! I appreciate it and use (almost) everything you have sent my way. (My current training suit isn't exactly "speedy", as you suggest. I'm trying to see how long my $15 Agon suit I purchased at Nationals is going to last. It has become an unintended drag suit with all the bags and droops! Just in case of a wardrobe malfunction, I do have another suit standing by- on deck. :afraid:)
Happy New Year!
:party2: :chug:
Resolution time again!

Great song and lyrics Ande. Halie does a great job with the vocals too. Especially like the changes and chorus. Donna mentions artists Nora Jones, Diana Krall and Madeleine Peyroux on the SongRamp web site. Another thought as I was listening, and one of my favs - Brandi Carlile - like "Late Morning Lullaby" and "The Heartache Can Wait". A little different artist, genre, and audience, i guess.
Hope you are successful with getting it into the right hands, and similarly with the 2012 resolutions.
My 2012 resolutions are:
Keep trimming lbs and shaping up
Drop times in 50 and 100 fr and br and race a 200 fr
Train for and try two Triathlons
Go-The-Distance for full year
Judd, Elaine,... SCY Nationals are in GreensBORO. Greenville is Dixie Zone LCM championships in August. And my 2012 resolution is be at both of them.
Yeah, I knew that; I just copied what Judd wrote and must have thought he wrote "GreensBORO". :D I plan on being at both of them, too!
Who knows; maybe we can keep our 200 mixed medley streak going from LCM Nats. and be on the same team for both of them!

Resolution time again!
Your resolutions look like goals
Goals are specific.
(ie: swim the 50 free in 21.68 or faster by April 2012)
Resolutions are general and vague.
(ie: lose weight, stop smoking, )
Who's to say what is or isn't possible for you
Grand Prix Cuts are fairly fast
event / SCY / LCM
50 Fr 21.69 24.79
100 fr 47.09 53.99
200 Fr 1:43.09 1:58.09
It's gonna take some serious training and improving.
work hard and find out. Good Luck,
My 2012 resolutions are:
+ Lose weight / get skinny
+ Get stronger
+ Nothing longer than a 4 or 500 in meets (no postals), mostly 50's, 100's & 200's
+ 6 beat kick in practice
I'll probably keep My 2012 Goals to myself.

Not totally understanding how training works?
True

Couro-ious,
Dude do the math
if you train 52 weeks a year, 6 times a week
that's 52 x 6 = 312 times a year
3,000,000 / 312 = 9,600 ave
even
3,000,000 / 365 = 8,219 ave
Plus if you want to race swim in meets and taper/prepare to swim fast
you'll need to drop your yardage as meets get close
Get under :23 in the 50 yard freestyle. PB stands at 24.58 from last July.
this says you want to be a better sprinter
which requires speed work, REST between efforts, and strength training
So do you want to:
1) swim around manhattan? cross the english channel? cross catalina?
be skinny, weak, tired all the time, and have no life
or
2) sprint and shred 25's, 50's & 100's,
Be buff, strong, feel fresh and live a great life away from swimming
Anything 200 & up is distance.
Your life, your choice, pick your priorities

Uhhhh... hi!
:carolers:
I just wanted to use that smilie.
My internet has been down, so I haven't been keeping up with very much of anything lately, like this thread. Anyway, first things first, I have the attention span of a gnat! :D That should tell you a lot.
In November, there was a week where I had a meet at the end, at the weekend. Before that weekend, during the weekdays, I worked my biggest week ever. The Monday, I did a 9k yard workout, then I did another 5.5k yards at a separate practice. I did a triple on the Wednesday. Every day of the week I was above 8k yards. Then the meet came. It was surprisingly good. My 100 breaststroke time was 1:21.21, which is just a second off my tapered and shaved down July time of 1:20.20. For comparison, my previous PB before July was a 1:24. I set in-season bests in my 100 ***, 100 back, 100 free, and 200 free. My 50 free was just 10 milliseconds off my pre-July 26.35 time.
Last October, I had two meets where I did 1:00 and 1:01.7 in my 100 free, 26.97 my 50 free, 1:15 in the 100 back, 1:16 in the 100 fly, and 2:14 in the 200 free. Those times came with much more normal yardage, for me.
I have a meet at the end of January where I'll do the 50 and 100 free, and 100s of the other strokes. That'll be after a month of the kind of yardage like that week I had in November. When I have my times from next month's meet, I'll come on here with them and we can discuss whether or not I need to make a course correction. But for better or worse, I've made the resolution/goal and I'm not changing it until I have more of my own data about how I'm responding to the work.
I appreciate all the input. I really do. Thanks, guys. See you in a month with those times, huh?
