Natalie COUGHLIN broke the 100 SCY FREE AMERICAN RECORD on
Sun 12/4/2011 at the Georgia Fall Invitational
46.84 broke her own record from 2007 by 1/100th

Kate Ledecky, 14 of Curl-Burke, broke 2 13-14 NAG yards records at the
5th Annual National Age Group Team Challenge held at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center Nov 12-13.
She broke a 33-year-old record in the 500 freestyle 4:35.14 held by Sippy Woodhead from 1978 4:39.94
Then she went 9:29.81 in the 1,000 free breaking Michelle Richardson's 9:33.39, from 1984
Katie has OT cuts in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 free & will definitely be one to watch at trials.

I wonder about maybe not allowing current national team members (people receiving stipends and the like from USA-S) to participate in USMS events or be eligible for records as full members.
"I got the record even though someone beat me" this sounds like all the worst things about participation trophies. And don't get me wrong, I like participation trophies, participation is super important. But if you're eligible to swim you should be eligible for records. We already "even the playing field" with age groups. Let's not create separate categories for the amount of work you put in. Excluding pros would make USMS seem even more like a second-tier organization.
