  • I wonder about maybe not allowing current national team members (people receiving stipends and the like from USA-S) to participate in USMS events or be eligible for records as full members. "I got the record even though someone beat me" this sounds like all the worst things about participation trophies. And don't get me wrong, I like participation trophies, participation is super important. But if you're eligible to swim you should be eligible for records. We already "even the playing field" with age groups. Let's not create separate categories for the amount of work you put in. Excluding pros would make USMS seem even more like a second-tier organization.
