Hey everyone,
I am going to be in Vegas for 4 days next week and really need to get some workouts in the pool. I am staying at Mandalay Bay casino and resort and it is HARD to find a 25 yard pool in its vicinity. I just need a legit lap pool that I can easily get to. I've researched fitness clubs, masters programs, public pools....I've researched public transportation but it seems that the buses/shuttles/monorails/etc only are around the strip? And not particularly outside it? Am I wrong?
I found this website: http://www.swimmersguide.com/
Which was awesome, but going through all the pools, it seems that the hotels that do have them only allows their own guests, and then the other more public pools are 5-8 miles away. I will have no car so I have no idea how to access the public pools.
Does anybody live in Vegas or been there who would know where they went to get a workout AND HOW TO TRAVEL THERE from Mandalay Bay ?
I found two masters programs in Vegas but they are both 8 miles away from my hotel and I have NO idea how to get there without a car.
Help!

Helen,
I've been in Vegas a handful of times @ conferences on the Strip. The closest and best pool is the nice Desert Bteeze facility and the team to workout with there is Las Vegas Masters. It's a great program, with a great coach and wide range of team members. However, you really will need a car. I tried doing a workout there one year usings cabs and it was too expensive for my tastes. Like most western 'big' states, public transit is limited.
I was in Vegas just a couple months ago, staying on the strip. We went and swam at the UNLV recreation pool. $10 to get in. If you're driving, there's a big parking garage right next to the rec facility. If you're cabbing, it's a really short drive from the strip.

Bring a lock for the locker room. They have signs posted that tell you not to bring bags out on the pool deck. Although some people were ignoring the sign.
