This year has been the first year of my three swimming so far that I've kept a log of my yardage. I didn't realize it at the time, but in doing the math this late night/early morning, I crossed 1,000,000 yards on Wednesday, November 16th. It happened sometime during my early morning workout at Santa Clara Swim Club, probably at the exact same moment I was resting at the wall and the flying hand of the hapless lady I shared a lane with whacked my nose! My nose was sore for the rest of the day.
These are my totals per month:
Jan: 100,700
Feb: 106,750
Mar: 110,350
Apr: 121,840
May: 68,261
Jun: 106,948
Jul: 79,725
Aug: 50,950
Sep: 107,100
Oct: 63,850
Nov: 111,000 (so far)
Has anyone else crossed a million yards this year? Getting close?
Hmmmm, I just noticed that at my current rate, I should hit 1M on Christmas Eve. That would be a nice way to earn a day off on Christmas Day. (I won't attempt to find a pool on Christmas anyway....) :carolers:
I've just passed 1,150,000! Over the next two weeks with classes out of the way and nothing else to do but a brief two days down in LA, I'll be doing a lot of swimming, so maybe I can get that number up to 1.3 mil.
edit: I'm actually just past 650 miles for the year... maybe I should go for 750 before NY? :)

Done. This morning I passed 1,000,000 yards on my way to beating my Masters best from 2007. I have another 14,000 or so to go to get a new PR. No swimming tomorrow... that will be my first day out of the pool in almost two months! Merry Christmas to all you dancing bananas  :carolers:

Congratulations you crazy banana! Take 2 consecutive days out of the water... I DARE YOU to. :)
Have only been swimming 9 months, new member. My goal for 2012 was 450k.
After reading this inspirational thread I may up it. You guys are amazing.
Great forum and great members, regret waiting 50 years to swim but I have to swim everyday, just a need. Thanks for the motivation
You GO, girl! :cheerleader: Wow, Mrs. Frog, I'm impressed! :applaud: How many hours do you put in each week? As for Mr. Frog being so supportive, I'm not surprised! You two are the "A" Team! :chug:
P.S. I'm at 639,075 yards. And, I thought I was doing well!
Hi, Elaine! I'm slow - it takes me 12+ hours a week to swim. And congrats on all your yardage! Happy New Year and a toast to another year of swimming!:chug:
Great going SealGirl! Sounds like you'll be ready to do the 10K openwater swim at Applegate next summer.
Thanks, Trout, for the encouragement. I would love to do a 10K open water but I'm too slow:cane:. I understand that we have to finish the 10K in less than 4 1/2 hours and my 10K in the pool last June was 4hr 49 min, and that was with a line to follow and 200 pushes off the wall! This past year I worked on increasing yardage, so maybe this year I can work on increasing speed. Happy New Year!:chug:
I don't know which is worse... the thought of swimming a million yards, or actually keeping track of how much I swim every day.
You guys are all nuts, but congratulations on the accomplishment, that's definitely a lot of hard work.
2011 is so last year. Now I'm at 0.32% progress towards my goal for 2012!
