At 62 I swam my first USMS meet over this past weekend at College of NJ; the EEX AG club put on a great masters meet and I enjoyed the expereince of racing again. Still have a ways to go, but now a better idea of whats starting to work and what really needs work.
However, when I awoke this morning with sore calves and tired sholders wondering if I'd overdone it, opened the Philadelphia Inqurier to headlines: "Two Runners Die at Philadelphia Marathon." Even though this wasn't a triathlon with swimming, endurance event issues don't just arise when swimming. Here are links to two articles about the philly marathon. Both runners were males, quite a bit younger (21 and 40) than I am, and early indications are heart attacks; obviously not related to panic or anxiety in the water. Very sad to learn that two athletes working on their journey didn't make it. Provides pause for some thought.
