Ok, so i'm wondering how accurate the below time conversion tool is (any opions?)
www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../conversions.asp
Here is why i'm asking... If this tool is accurate it means that during my first meet this past weekend I made the National cut (based on 2011 SCY time standars) in the 50F and 100 BR!! This is very exciting to me and makes me want to start swimming more frequently and seriously.
This is what the conversion tool indicated ...
50F LCM @ 33.21 = 50F SCY 28.56 (NAT QUAL time 29.14)
100 BR LCM @ 1:34.85 = 100 BR SCY 1:21.19 (NAT QUAL time 1:22.87)
I think my fever has returned! Man how I have missed this sport!
Also, does USMS accecpt conversion times for qualification?
I know usas doesn't, but they publish standards for each course. It goes to follow though, if a converted time qualifies, then likely the unconverted time will qualify for the other course. For usas, if you qualify for one course nationals times, then I believe you also qualify for the other course nationals.
The cut times for the LCM Summer Nationals are much faster than the SCY Winter Nationals. So if you make the cut for the SCY meet, you are not guaranteed to make the LCM meet. As far as I know, the SCY Nationals meet has only been running since 2007. From 1998-2006 the Nationals meets were both LCM and were run in the Spring and Summer. The cuts for those meets were usually exactly the same or very similar. The big meet in the winter was US Open, which is now in the summer.
Now who can tell us what it was like before then!
