Just received an email (below) from our PACIFIC Chair, Michael Moore the great...
Looks like PACIFIC Masters will step in and help out with volunteers at Nationals!
I love this about our sport and it sure is a nice way to demonstrate that swimming really is for life.
"Due to the extraordinary number of swimmers (1800!!) attending this year's USA Swimming National Championships, we need 30 Timers to staff the second competition pool during the morning heats.
Timer shifts available:
August 2 - 6:8:15a - 2p
30 Timers per shift
Minimum age: 16

some folks from worlds will race there
Maybe they shouldn't even adjust themselves for the time difference too much. Just find a dark hotel room and sleep in the middle of the day between morning heats and finals.
All but seven members of the USA world championships will be at Palo Alto:
Michael Phelps
Rebecca Soni
Caitlin Leverenz
Natalie Coughlin
Amanda Beard
Eric Shanteau
Chad LaTourette
I suspect everyone wants to go to the Pan American Games, which is the meet selected from this nationals. Pan Ams are in October.
Will be interesting to see how they handle the time change. They got on a plane this morning Shanghai time (last night, US time), and will have to race about 24 hours after landing. Flying west across the International Date Line doesn't affect people as badly, but we'll see how many swim as fast or faster. There will be a few people who didn't go to worlds that will be favored for wins if the worlds people don't step up.

So I guess the meet is so big they are using both pools for prelims. Anyone know how they're going to do it? Will they split it by genders like what was done at Worlds in '06?

I'm watching two video streams at once  from usaswimming.org and it is split by gender.
