Swimming's world-record drought has reached 18 months, and as next month's world championships in Shanghai draw nearer the sport's close-knit community is starting to wonder when it will be broken.

A big +1 to that. He's also got a good chance in the 800 and 400. He's top-ranked in the world in the 200 but I don't think he'll threaten the record there.
Some others to watch are Rebecca Soni and Camille LaCourt.
Have people forgotten the WR in the 800?
There's no way Sun Yang gets close to the 800 WR which stands at 7:32. He might swim under Hackett's textile best of 7:38 though.
Rebecca Soni has a great chance of breaking Pierse's 200 WR as it is the softest suit WR (not much change from Jones' old textile best).
Lacourt may break the 50 and 100 back WRs
