2025 Long Course - Who's Going?

Nationals are always a great place to meet old friends and make new ones.

  • I’m not swimming until usms gives us some resolution on the San Antonio masters meet…I’m not going to swim nationals to be categorized with a biological male.

  • I'm a cisgender woman, and I'd rather swim with transgender swimmers than transphobic swimmers.

  • AGZNG - Why do you immediately jump to 'transphobic' when all is asked is to be fair? This has NOTHING to to with transphobia.

  • Your post used the words "biological male" which intentionally misgenders women who happen to be transgender, and also said you would not swim with them at Nationals. That conveyed prejudice against transgender swimmers and came across as transphobic.

If that wasn't your intent, then I'd be glad to hear that! "Transgender female" could have been used instead of "biological male." If you're concerned about fairness in competitive sports, that's valid because it IS a complex issue. Many "debates" aren't actually debates because they're rooted in misinformation, falsehoods, and fears that needlessly vilify transgender individuals.

USMS and other sports organizations have consulted with experts on this issue and accordingly enacted policies, but there will and should always be room for change because gender-affirming healthcare is an ever-evolving field - just not at the expense of transgender individuals. They should be welcomed and supported at USMS events, not ostracized and excluded. To be clear, I do not pretend to know what the solution is. I leave that to the actual, unbiased experts.
