Our masters swim team has probably over 50% triathletes in its membership. One of our teammates started a Go Fund Me page to raise money to travel to and compete at Ironman Arizona. It was not well received by other teammates in the triathlon community.
I thought about donating part of what I raise to a charity. Maybe a swimming related charity. I would say I need x amount to go and anything over that I would donate. Or I could say I need x amount and half of what I raise I donate.
Has anyone used a fundraising campaign to pay for themselves to attend Nationals?
Do you think it's inappropriate?
I think it's only inappropriate if you have the money to pay for it yourself. If you truly need the help then I don't see what's wrong with it. No one is forced to contribute, after all! :)
