I've been on the fence about signing up for Santa Clara, mainly because the order of events is less than optimal for distance freestylers. I checked into doing an Alcatraz swim, something I've always wanted to do, with SwimArt ( http://swim-art.com), on Friday morning (3/2). That would sure make it a swim vacation, which is appealing. However, Leslie of SwimArt rightly warns that a 2 mi cold water swim would leave one awfully tired. So questions: would anyone be interested in going in on a Fri morning Alcatraz swim? For those of you who know Alcatraz, is this a terrible idea that would ruin the 500 free on Sat morning?

One of my buddies is very experienced with Alcatraz swims. We are doing the 1650 at Nationals on Thursday. He would probably be way more interested in an Alcatraz challenge on Friday instead of the 400 IM.
So what would it take to get a group together for a Friday morning Alcatraz swim? The more the merrier.....
