Welcome to Arizona USMS swimmers! As your 2011 Nationals Hospitality Director, I thought I would give you my advice on where to eat dinner.
For all you healthy foodies, True Foods, located in the Scottsdale Quarter, 15191 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, is a wonderful restaurant which was created in conjuntion with Dr. Andrew Weil. Delicious healthy food, perfect for those of you who are gluten intolerant or for you vegetarians. Don't worry, there is something for everyone, including you carnivores. They have wonderful, healthy non-alcoholic drinks. Make sure you try the cucumber refresher and they are famous for their Tuscan kale salad. You gold medal sponsors will be able to sample some of the salad at hospitality. More info. go to www.foxrc.com.
The best hamburger in Phoenix was rated in the top ten in the country by Bon Appetit magazine and is found at The Grind. This neighborhood resaurant/bar is located at 3961 East Camelback Road in Phoenix. Chef Matt cooks his burgers in a 1000 degree oven to seal in the juices and sear the outside. Have the sweet and spicy burger which has candied jalapenoes on top. It is by far the best burger I have ever eaten! A must is the homemade donuts with a butterscotch carmel sauce. Don't worry, they are small. More info. go to www.thegrindaz.com.
If you want something closer to the pool, My Arepa is located at 2057 S. Alma School Road, Suite #4, in Mesa. It is a diner type restaurant (you can go in your shorts straight from the pool) which serves authentic Venezuelan Food. An arepa is a pita type sandwich made with corn meal (so you people with gluten allergies can have these). The best one is stuffed with shredded beef, cheese, black beans and fried plantains. There are amazing! More info. go to myarepa.com.
If you decide you are too tired too swim, I recommend going to the ipic theaters at the Scottsdale Quarter, where True Foods is located. Go online to ipictheaters.com to make your reservations before hand or you won't get a good seat. The gold section seating consists of big, fluffy lazy boys with slide out tables and they have servers which will bring you food and drinks (a full bar) during the movies. It is totally decadant! Their sliders, especially the barbeque chicken, are delicious! All the food is really good, so have dinner and movie after a tough day of swim. If you get cold, you can get blankets and pillows. It's the perfect place to relax!
Another piece of advice is Arizona is very casual, so you don't don't need to bring any dressy clothes to go to any of the places I have mentioned.
We here in Mesa are all looking forward to having you all and have done a lot of work to try and make this a great meet for you. So we hope you all have fun and have some fast swims!
WOW!!!! It's actually a real place!!! Cool!! At first I thought you guys were just messing with me about the fast food stuff. I don't think I'll be eating one of those quad-burgers anyway. I'd probably be at the bottom of the pool later!! :bolt:
I ate there twice last april. first time I put down the 1lb with fries and a corona. second time 4 days later I tried the 2 lb with fries and a coke. got all but the last two bites down. nothing I could do to make myself eat that last of it. so disappointed.
but just read they are opening one in dallas, so I might have to make a second attempt at the 2lb burger this summer
